Chios

Wine culture as we know it came out of the minds of the ancient Greeks.
They drank what they called “civilized” wines.
These low alcohol wines were highly desirable and prized for
their ability to keep one, well….“civilized”

More history:

Did you know that Oregon has a long history of piquette production?

It’s true. Around the turn of the 20th century, Oregon was exporting dried prunes and apples to France for the production of ‘piquette’. At that time, Oregon had advanced dried fruit processing and packing capabilities and a bountiful supply of apples, prunes, cherries, and berries. So much so, that we were exporting to Japan and Europe. It turns out, that people in France were using Oregon fruits to produce ‘piquette’ at home. The below excerpt is from an industry and economic brochure that was distributed in 1904 before the ‘Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition’ Worlds Fair here in Portland, Oregon in 1905. This brochure was generated to highlight many of the economic advantages of working with Oregon businesses and was designed to encourage migration and investment into our state.

2020 ‘Chios’ Syrah - Piquette Red Wine

We love drinking wine. Lora / Piquette is a wine for drinkers. For people who want multiple glasses of wine without the excessive inebriation, lora / piquette is the answer! Our 2020 ‘Chios’ is made without any added sulfur, from the must of our Syrah grapes. The resulting wine is low in alcohol, clean, refreshing, fruity, and aromatic. This is a wine style that is perfect for all seasons and moments.

THIS IS NOT A SPARKLING VERSION OF PIQUETTE.

Drink in moderation…….drink piquette!

The Island of Chios, pronounced (SHEE-OSH) was one of the most famous wine regions in ancient Greece. These wines were exported all over the Mediterranean in clay amphorae. We named our Lora / Piquette in honor of this important style of wine and the island that made it famous.
