Our Doctrine

We believe strongly in the Greek concept of “Sophrosyne” as it relates to the consumption of wine. At its core, sophrosyne embodies the virtue of moderation and knowing ones limits. The elixir of water and wine was used to engage in deep conversations with friends and strangers alike. It was used to heighten the senses and enter a realm of enlightenment. There was a responsibility in consumption and an awareness to not abuse it.

At DIONYSTIC we are guided by these practices and encourage others to join us in the intellectual pursuits of the preferred beverage of the God’s. We are blessed to see wine for what it is; a conduit to knowledge, music, art, science, nature, joy, passion, sensuality, and freedom.

We drink in moderation.

We drink in the spirit of our lord.

We drink to learn.

We drink to listen.

We drink to feel.

We drink to be free.

Dionysus was the Greek God of wine, winemaking, grape cultivation, fertility, ritual madness, theater, and religious ecstasy. Unmistakably the master of ceremonies, the leader of revelry, and the usher of matrimony. One of the most important (and few) quotes that is attributed to Dionysus relates to the consumption of wine during a symposium.

I mix three kraters only for those who are wise.
One is for good health, which they drink first.
The second is for love and pleasure.
The third is for sleep, and when they have drunk it those who are wise wander homewards.
The fourth is no longer ours, but belongs to arrogance./hubris.
The fifth leads to shouting.
The sixth to a drunken revel.
The seventh to black eyes.
The eighth to a summons.
The ninth to bile.
The tenth to madness, in that it makes people break things.

Join us in our pursuit of enlightenment through wine. These pursuits are not just limited to the wines that we produce, but the knowledge we have gained through traveling, consuming, and learning about wines and customs from friends and colleagues around the wine world.

We are a small part of a continuation……..
